The Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras
The Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras (CSYO), founded in 1961, represent the future of classical music. Supported by The Symphony Guild of Charlotte, the CSYO is an integral educational component of the Charlotte Symphony family, providing training for young musicians in a professional symphony atmosphere.The Youth Philharmonic (CSYP) engages students in grades 4 through 9; The Youth Orchestra is comprised of students in grades 8 through 12.
Each group rehearses weekly and one rehearsal a month is devoted to coaching sessions provided by members of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.
The Youth Orchestras are led by CSO resident conductor, Christopher James Lees, who has 15 years of experience conducting secondary, university, and honors-level orchestras all across the country. In addition to his extensive professional work, he also has served on the college faculties of the University of Michigan, Kent State University, and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts
